Where we stand on privacy
Your data is yours. This page lays out what CourseCheetah collects while you use our Canvas study extension, why we collect it, how we look after it, and the choices you get along the way. Using the Services means you're okay with what's described here.
1. What we collect
We only gather what we need to make CourseCheetah work and keep it running smoothly. That breaks down into a few buckets:
Things you tell us. When you set up and use an account, that can include your name, email address, a username and password, details about your school or grade level, and the payment information needed to process a purchase.
Account and access data. To keep you signed in and your subscription valid, we hold identifiers like your user and account IDs, session and authentication tokens, subscription keys, service status, and a record of account access for security.
How you use the tool. We note things like when you sign in and out, how long you're active, which features you reach for, and the settings you prefer - the kind of usage patterns that help us tell what's working.
Device and technical details. For security and performance, we log data such as your IP address and rough location, browser and operating system, device type, and any error reports that come up.
2. Why we collect it
Everything above goes toward running the study assistant and helping you get through Canvas work. In practice, we use your information to:
- Sign you in and confirm you're allowed to use the Services.
- Keep CourseCheetah working, and make it better over time.
- Handle payments and manage your subscription.
- Watch for fraud, abuse, and anyone trying to get in who shouldn't.
- Understand usage so we can sharpen the features - including the AI suggestions.
- Answer your questions and help when something breaks.
- Meet our legal and terms-of-service obligations.
3. Who we don't share it with
We never sell or trade your data. And to be completely clear about the question students ask most: we do not share your information with your school, your instructors, or any learning platform, including Canvas. What you do inside CourseCheetah stays confidential on our side.
There are a few narrow, ordinary exceptions:
- Vendors who help us operate. We lean on outside services for things such as billing, hosting, and usage analytics. Each one is contractually held to using your information only for the work we bring them in for, and to keeping it protected.
- Legal requirements. If the law or a valid legal order compels it, or if we need to protect our rights or someone's safety, we may have to disclose data.
- A change in the business. If CourseCheetah is ever part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data could move with it. We'd let you know if that happens.
4. Keeping it safe, and being honest about it
We hold onto your data only as long as we genuinely need it - to run the Services, meet legal duties, or until you ask us to delete it. While we have it, we protect it with encryption, tight access controls, session and login safeguards, routine security reviews, and regular backups.
That said, we won't pretend it's foolproof. No system that sends or stores data over the internet can promise to be 100% secure. We hold up our end with industry-standard protections, and you can help by using a strong password and never sharing your login.
5. Your choices
Depending on where you live, you may be able to ask us to show you the data we hold, correct it, delete it, hand you a copy, limit how we use it, or stop certain uses. You can also opt out of marketing emails whenever you like. To make any of these requests, just email us - details are at the bottom of this page - and we'll get back to you within a reasonable time.
We also use cookies and similar technologies for the essentials (keeping you logged in and secure) and to understand how features get used. Your browser lets you limit or block cookies, though switching some off may affect how well CourseCheetah works.
6. Younger users
CourseCheetah is built for high school and college students and isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If we find out we've picked up information from a child under 13 without a parent's consent, we'll delete it right away. If you think that's happened, please tell us and we'll act quickly.
7. Updates to this policy
We may revise this policy as our practices or the rules around them change. When we do, the updated version goes live here, and we'll flag anything significant by email, in the product, or with a notice on the site. The "Last Updated" date at the top always tells you when we last touched it. Keep using the Services after a change and that counts as accepting it.
